The focus of the conference of the German Association for Defense Technology / Deutsche Gesellschaft für Wehrtechnik e.V. (DWT) in Bonn was the future support of the Bundeswehr with novel artificial intelligence and quantum technologies. The GhostPlay consortium was also represented, demonstrating how 21strategies' AI-based technology is integrated into a digital twin of a battlefield.
Artificial intelligence and quantum technology are increasingly transforming all areas in society and within organizations. DWT dedicated an entire IT conference to how these technologies can impact and support defense. "Smart & Digital Bundeswehr" was the fitting theme. Different concepts were presented for this purpose. The GhostPlay consortium was represented with a poster booth.
How to respond to threats from drone swarms?
The airborne drone attacks in Ukraine are real. News reports indicate that there are repeated attacks from the Russian side. However, even state-of-the-art defense systems are usually not designed to deal with drones. They are light and have a low flying altitude. Used in a targeted manner, they can cause a lot of damage by targeting high value assets (HVA) - relevant infrastructure or military equipment. What are good practices against such threats? How can the best possible protection for civilians be achieved? And most topically, what do tactics of drones against drones look like?
Tactical artificial intelligence enables novel tactics
GhostPlay is based on a digital twin of a battlefield. And tries to provide an answer to these questions. At its core, it is based on 21strategies technology. In a serious game, advantageous strategies and tactics for defense are simulated. An advantage that comes from artificial intelligence: By combining a variety of decisions and decision options with each other, novel tactics can emerge. The current focus is on defense against drones and drone swarms. GhostPlay is thus helping to increase defense performance for air defense as a whole.
GhostPlay Demo Day 2023
On January 25, 2023 in Berlin, the GhostPlay Consortium will be presenting a full day on GhostPlay and tactical artificial intelligence in defense. The focus will be on the possibilities of simulation, the making of GhostPlay and the benefits it brings. Various keynote speakers from the defense community we will be giving their perspective on the topic area. GhostPlay is a research project funded by dtwc.bw. The consortium partners of Helmut Schmitt University, 21strategies, HENSOLDT Sensors and BCR Consulting are looking forward to your visit. Find further information at: https://www.ghostplay.ai.
